Our Approach

Orlando Eats is a culinary collective; a small community of serious eaters. We have one job: to dine at Central Florida restaurants and tell you about it. It’s a good job. We only review restaurants anonymously, and we do so honestly. We’ll never be invited to glad-hand at industry soirees or private restaurant events as you can’t invite someone you don’t know. Or maybe you can. Who knows. We’re not interested. What we are interested in is cutting through the noise. We want you to know about and support the restaurants in Orlando that deserve to be. This means never cozying up to the help or getting high on hype.

Restaurant Review Criteria

We take our time with featured reviews, preferring to dine at a restaurant multiple times before putting digital pen to digital paper. Hot takes can be found on Instagram (instagram.com/realorlandoeats). We try to speak to the individual nuances and subtleties of restaurants in our write-ups but each is judged on four fixed criteria: food, ambience, service, and x-factor.

  • Food: Other criteria aside, is the food objectively good? Would it be just as tasty being spoon fed to us by a circus clown in the back of a dirty van?
  • Ambience: Does the atmosphere add or subtract from the dining experience? Is it aesthetically pleasing? Does it encourage conviviality and conversation?
  • Service: Is the wait staff knowledgeable? Friendly? Are concerns addressed in a professional manner? Does the pacing of courses make sense? Are needs noticed and attended to?
  • X-Factor: Did we learn or try something new? Are people-in-the-know talking about the restaurant? Does it invoke a sense of excitement? An emotional response? Is the restaurant a tough reservation?

Go-Kart Romeo

Insatiable Scribbler

Bulbous bon vivant, Go-Kart Romeo was the catalyst for the National Restaurant Association’s ill-conceived and heavy-handed campaign to change the ‘All You Can Eat’ buffet to the ‘All You Care to Eat’ buffet.
