Every month, Orlando Eats highlights a sampling of top tastes in Central Florida; three random nibbles that delighted, surprised, or befuddled with their brilliance. A brutally hot monsoon of a June had us seeking shelter in a behemoth theme park newbie, a Lao fave that’s become our second home, and, wait for it, wait for it, waaiiittt fooor iiittt … a sports bar. Chicken drum roll, please. Please? Whateves – here are our Best Bites at Orlando restaurants in June 2019.

Jamón Ibérico de Bellota @ Jaleo ~ $36

At Disney Springs newbie Jaleo, Jamón Ibérico de Bellota is cut by hand at the table from a Fermín leg cured for 36-48 months. This is by far the highest quality Spanish ham we’ve eaten in Central Florida but far from the best Spanish ham we’ve had. Despite the price, we’re assuming the jamón is not 100% Ibérico. Blend or not, it still made us swoon.

Nashville Hot Chicken Wings @ the Porch ~ 10 for $11.50

I somehow managed to live through the Frank’s Red Hot and butter Buffalo wing daze without ever becoming a big fan. Wings? Meh. How times have changed. We’ve been making up for lost time at The Porch where its jumbo wings are house brined, served with carrots, celery & side sauce, and meaty as all get out. We’ve sampled our way around the various flavor options but settled on the Nashville hot dry rub pic’ed here as our winner, winner chicken dinner. Although our favorites around town remain favorites (ahem, Domu), if you’re into wings, not many places do them better than Winter Park’s The Porch.

Curry Ribs @ Sticky Rice Lao Street Food ~ $7 or $8 (too much Lao beer)

We’d heard these curry pork ribs were finding their way on to Sticky Rice’s specials board and were fortunate enough to hit ’em when they did. Meaty, drooly, caveman-y spears of fragrant, fatty goodness. Call ahead (below) for daily specials.
