Every month, Orlando Eats highlights a sampling of top tastes in Central Florida; three random nibbles that delighted, surprised, or befuddled with their brilliance. April found us feeding an unexpected need – an unexpected, insatiable and oh-so-carnivorous need. Orlando became meat-shaped. More specifically, pig shaped. We considered getting our blood iron checked. Or investing in a sleeper coffin.
In the end, we managed to satisfy our porky hunger at three old faves; Hunger Street Tacos, Sticky Rice Lao Street Food, and Ravenous Pig. And now, for your reading pleasure, we present our Best Bites at Orlando restaurants in April 2019.
Grilled Lemongrass Pork Jerky @ Sticky Rice Lao Street Food – $5.50
We stumbled on this special so apologies if you can’t replicate the experience. Our hope is that it becomes a menu fixture. Those familiar with @stickyricestreetfood have likely tried their Lemongrass Beef Jerky. It’s very good. This pork variation is better. Simply outstanding. We’re not sure of the ins-and-outs of jerkifying and grilling, but whatever the process it produces a winner of a bite. The exterior has an addictive caramelized char, the interior retains a bit of bounce, the chewiness just enough to keep you dreamily occupied. When paired with a finger full of sticky rice and dipped into a bit lime chili sauce, it’ll blow your pleasure pistons.

Rib Taco @ Hunger Street Tacos – we think $7. Don’t quote us.
We came for the sopesitos. We fell in love with the rib taco w/ mole verde. Nuestra vida está completa. We had heard rumors of the existence of a rib taco at HST long before seeing it in the wild. All we can say after experiencing it firsthand is… amazing. This taco (with pepitas and red onion) has taken on mythical status at Orlando Eats – we’ve been annoying friends, family and random passerby with stories of how it heals, enlightens, and transforms the lives of those who taste it. We’re fully converted. Don’t be surprised if we show up on your doorstep with pamphlets. “Would you like to know the Truth?” It’s wrapped in a tortilla on Lee Road.
Like the Pork Jerky above, this is a special, but it’s an oft-appearing one. For more on HST, check out our review.

Pork Porterhouse @ Ravenous Pig – $35
The photo doesn’t even hint at the scale of this hunk o’ piggy. It’s gargantuan. It’s Hellboy right-fist sized. Unfiltered Lucky Strikes sized. A drunken orangutan driving a monster truck sized. Its simply gorgeous in its magnitude. There’s some other stuff on the plate; polenta, heirloom squash, pickled green strawberries. All good. There’s whiskey jus. Just enough pink to make things interesting. A model of what a plate of meat should be. Leftovers were gifted to friends hosting a post-dinner soirée. Even in leftover form, it was enough to elicit an early morning phone call the next day gushing with praise and demanding to know its origin story.
