Every month Orlando Eats highlights a sampling of our top tastes in Central Florida – three random nibbles that delighted, surprised, or befuddled with their brilliance.
Ahi Tuna Burger @ the Bakers Table: $13
When the Salgados sold Spanish River Grill a few years back, we were left hungry for reliable eats in New Smyrna Beach. Enter the Baker’s Table. Owing to the talent of husband and wife chefs Jaime and Jeanette Quintana, it’s become our go-to in Orlando-by-the-sea. The ahi tuna burger — seared rare with seaweed ginger salad and wasabi mayo — is a menu staple and consistent winner. If you haven’t been, this sandwich alone is worth a visit.

Pimiento Cheese and Ham Jam @ Swine & Sons: $9
We don’t know what sort of sorcery they employ, but Swine and Sons continues to be magically good. Y’all know that cheese is a damn fine thing, but cheese topped with ham jam? Now, that’ll melt your heart. Pimiento that is, a bit of Ritz and kerplow you gone. Kudos to Swine and Sons for its many years of keeping Orlando mouths watering and hearts in overdrive.

Octopus and Shrimp @ Ravenous Pig: $19
The Ravenous Pig has been one of the best restaurants in Orlando for over a decade now. A decade? Christ, we’re old. We’ve found that it’s never been a model of consistency, but when Ravenous is on, it’s on fire – creating beautiful dishes like this Tampa Bay octopus w/ Ponce Inlet white shrimp, crispy cauliflower, charcuterie x.o., fish sauce vinaigrette, cilantro and mint.
