Bulla beware. José Andrés, elBulli acolyte turned successful stateside restaurateur and celeb philanthropist, is bringing Jaleo to Disney Springs. Deservedly or not, Andrés is largely credited with bringing the small plate concept to the States, winning accolades for his spot-on, tapas-driven Spanish cuisine. Jaleo promises to greatly elevate la comida España in our dear City Beautiful, adding to what’s becoming an embarrassment of culinary riches south of town and twisting the thorn in the side of North Orlandoans who hate driving to hell and back.
Orlando Eats’ very own GoKart Romeo, a former Washington D.C. swamp rat, long frequented Jaleo’s first stateside outpost there, which opened back in – wait for it – 1993. GoKart has fond memories. “It was good,” he said. Hey – easy with the praise, buddy.
This will be the sixth Jaleo and by far the largest, opening at some point during the winter of 2019. According to Jaleo’s website, “the menu will feature an extensive variety of tapas reflecting the rich regional diversity of traditional and contemporary Spanish cuisine in addition to a variety of authentic paellas cooked over a wood fire in the restaurant.” Think pan de cristal topped with sea urchin and ibérico bellota pancetta, or Basque-style squid with rice and squid ink sauce. Sold. When can we book?
